A CASE OF CHOLELITHIASIS/GALLSTONE

Dibakar Pramanik, a 19-year-old boy, was brought to me on January 22, 2015, by his parents due to his recurring abdominal pain for the past two years. He experienced discomfort in the upper abdomen and the back, accompanied by nausea and vomiting. Initially, they believed it was a gastric issue and managed it as such, but over the last three months, the discomfort worsened, prompting his parents to consult a doctor. The doctor recommended an ultrasound, which showed a gallstone (8.3 mm) and a left-sided kidney stone. The physician suggested a cholecystectomy (surgical removal of the gallbladder) and conservative treatment for the kidney stone, along with an emphasis on drinking plenty of water. However, the patient’s family approached me upon their relative’s suggestion to explore homeopathy.

The patient was under my care for 6 months and was free of symptoms. He experiences no pain, no nausea, and no vomiting. The last time I saw him was on June 13, 2015, and I prescribed Lycopodium 30/6 doses along with placebo for two weeks. In the meantime, several of his relatives urged him to see a surgeon for gall bladder removal, as there is a common misconception among people, including doctors, that gallstones cannot be treated conservatively. He was admitted to a nursing home on June 30, 2015, and the surgeon recommended a routine ultrasound before the surgery. To their complete surprise, the ultrasound showed no abnormalities; therefore doctors released the patient without doing any operation.

When the appropriate medicine is chosen, homeopathic remedies can effectively treat gallstones. The majority of gallstone cases undergo surgery, while a small number are claimed to be treated with homeopathic medicine; hence, every gallstone case requires homeopathic management. If the outcome is favourable within a year, then surgical intervention is unnecessary.
