A CASE OF CHRONIC ALCOHOLIC LIVER DISEASE - Dr. Hasans Homeopathy Health Center

A CASE OF CHRONIC ALCOHOLIC LIVER DISEASE

A 42-year-old patient, Mr. Acharjee, who was suffering from ‘Chronic Alcoholic Liver Disease’ came to my consultation on 1st October 2008. He was admitted to a teaching institute in North Bengal, but the patient’s family was advised to transfer to a different hospital since it was deemed a hopeless situation. They chose to attempt homeopathy as a final option, and based on recommendations from friends, they brought the patient to my clinic. The patient was extremely weak and unable to walk independently. He suffered from anorexia, had yellow and limited urine, and displayed a swollen abdomen with overall edema. He experienced pain, significant swelling in the abdomen, nausea and vomiting, tiredness, dry mouth, and extreme thirst. There was a lack of sensation in the lower limbs. He experienced loose stools, occurring 5 to 10 times daily. Body temperature historically increased in the afternoon around 4 pm. Most importantly, he was a habitual drinker for several years. He exhibited additional symptoms that are useful in choosing homeopathic remedies, including:

  • A fear of thunderstorms and death,
  • He was easily agitated, acting arrogant and in an unpleasant manner
  • He was also quite obstinate.

Investigation reports from 1st Oct 2008 indicated that:

  • The ultra-sonography findings revealed significant ascites, which hindered the proper visualisation of other organs because of the large volume of ascitic fluid.
  • The X-Ray report revealed bilateral pleural involvement along with pneumonitis in the left lower lung.

The blood profile results were as follows:

  • Hemoglobin 8.5 g/dl
  • Total WBC count 14,400 cells/cu mm
  • Neutrophils 91%
  • Eosinophils 2%
  • Lymphocytes 7%
  • ESR 70 mm/hour
  • Bilirubin 2.14 mg/dl
  • Conjugated bilirubin 1.56 mg/dl
  • Unconjugated bilirubin 0.58 mg/dl
  • S G P T 12 unit/l
  • S G O T 92 unit/l
  • Alkaline phosphatase 260 g/dl
  • Serum protein 7.1 g/dl
  • Albumin 2.3 g/dl
  • Globulin 4.8 g/dl
  • A/G ratio 0.5:1

I recommended Lycopodium due to the symptoms:

  • Fear of thunderstorms
  • Fear of dying
  • Arrogance
  • Stubbornness
  • Fever worsening at 4 pm
  • Craving for hot food and meat.

October 1, 2008: I recommended Lycopodium 30/6 doses, then Nihilinum 30 for a duration of 10 days.

October 11, 2008: The patient seemed to feel better, but I couldn’t discern any progress. I prescribed Lycopodium 30/6 doses and Nihilinum for an additional month.

November 18, 2008: The patient experienced an improvement of nearly 30%. He urinated often, and his edema and ascites were significantly reduced. I recommended Nihilinum 30 for a duration of one month.
I therefore gave him Lycopodium at long intervals, and on October 25, 2010, I finished his medication. His treatment lasted two years and only Lycopodium was effective in curing him. No additional medications were required, and all his tests returned to normal.
